It is insoluble in water, radiopaque and nontoxic. Barium was used for the first time in 1920’s.
Non-Iodinated barium sulphate suspension for CT scanning of the the GI tract, 2.1% w/w convenient, ready-to use, rapid transit, time saving, no diluting, no mixing, just shake.
Barium sulphate contrast for abdominal and pelvic CT studies, 4.6% w/w barium sulphate is absorbed by the body, there is no need to administer a large volume of contrast to compensate for absorption loss.
